The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language—a celebration of the development of the state language—is observed annually in Ukraine on October 27.
Once, my little daughter said that when she grew up, she wanted to be a doctor. We gathered around her, trying to “nurture an ear of grain from a tiny seed”… We suggested various options: a pediatrician, a general practitioner, a rehabilitation specialist…
She looked up at us, took in everyone with her gaze, paused, and said that she wanted to be the kind of doctor who heals with words.
We smiled, exchanged glances, and fell into thought. A child’s lips had spoken a truth.
What, it would seem, are mere words…
Just words and a voice—nothing more.
Yet the heart beats—comes alive—
Upon hearing them! Surely, it is from God
That this voice and these words
Come among the people!

From birth, a little human being is called an infant. Every day, a mother—taking the child into her arms—chirps and speaks words, filling the child with the energy of love, much like watering a flower with healing water. And in the evening, she sings, connecting heaven and earth with invisible threads of words, wrapping the child in warmth and tenderness—for gentle lullabies coo overhead, a soft creature comes to rock the cradle, and the twinkling stars descend to rest beneath the child’s eyelashes.
Every day, the Word fills… …a child, taking root within them through movements, emotions, and feelings.
And so, the infant grows into a curious little soul—a “little questioner”—who, guided by adults, journeys through the Universe, discovering “good and evil,” the “low and the high,” sin and prayer, and the truth.
It is precisely through the Word that development unfolds, the future is shaped, and reality is created.
Children grow into adults, yet a mother’s verbal presence never truly ceases.
A mother offers prayers and—just as in childhood—envelops her child in an invisible *omophorion* (a protective mantle). It acts as a shield that deflects arrows, guards against exhaustion, rain, and thirst, and generates high-frequency vibrations, helping the person stay upright.
And so, the adult stands before a choice: which words should they choose?
There is a wealth of research regarding the energetic content of words. We have often heard about “high” and “low” vibrations. We have frequently felt a drain on our energy after interacting with unkind people, or upon hearing words that devalue or disrespect us. Conversely, we feel uplifted and inspired when an interaction is pleasant and sincere.
In our current times, the Word holds paramount importance. We are all traumatized by war. We perceive information acutely, critically, and often painfully. It is essential for each of us to realize that when we enter the space of communication, we should choose the option: “words that heal.”
“Verbal salt” poured onto an open wound only makes it sting and fester all the more. Perhaps this sounds a bit dramatic… …it might sound a certain way, but I want to write these words by Lina Kostenko in capital letters:
And if it were up to me,
I would write in italics everywhere:
There is so much sorrow in the world—
People, be beautiful to one another!
