Dear patients!

Today I would like to draw your attention to a problem that is often underestimated – regular consumption of sugary carbonated drinks.

Particularly popular among young people, they seem safe, but they pose a serious threat to both oral health and the general condition of the body.

How do carbonated drinks affect teeth?

Most of these drinks contain a large amount of sugar – up to 10 teaspoons in a 0.5 liter bottle. Bacteria living in the oral cavity convert sugar into acid. This acid corrodes tooth enamel – a protective layer that is not restored naturally.

In addition, the drinks themselves already contain acids (citric, phosphoric, etc.), which further aggravates the situation.

The result is increased tooth sensitivity, caries, discoloration of the enamel and even the risk of gum inflammation.

And what about “diet” drinks?

Unfortunately, even sugar-free carbonated drinks are not safe. They contain artificial sweeteners and the same acids that damage enamel. Therefore, “zero calories” does not mean “zero harm”.

Sugar is a threat not only to teeth Excess sugar in the diet has a negative effect on the body as a whole. It increases the risk of obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and weakens the immune system. Therefore, giving up sweet drinks is not only a preventative measure against tooth decay, but also a contribution to overall health.

How to reduce harm if it is difficult to give up completely?

– Drink through a straw to minimize contact with enamel.

– Do not hold the drink in your mouth.

– Rinse your mouth with water after drinking.

– Avoid drinking carbonated drinks before bed.

– Choose water – the best drink for health.

Professional advice from a dentist

– Chew gum with xylitol – it stimulates salivation and helps neutralize acid.

-Use fluoride rinses – they strengthen enamel and prevent caries.

-Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day.

-And, of course, don’t forget about regular dental checkups.

Your health is in your hands

Daily habits shape your future. By choosing healthy drinks instead of sweet fizzy drinks, you take a big step towards a healthy smile and strong immunity!

With care for your health, dentist Svetlana Melnikova
