The difference between a psychologist, psychotherapist and psychiatrist lies in their education, field of practice

Field of Practice: May work in a variety of fields such as education, research, business, sports or clinical practice. They can conduct research, consult, provide educational support, and participate in the development of intervention programs.

Working methods: Psychological methods of research, counseling, training and development of intervention programs are used.

Psychotherapist

Often has a master’s or doctoral degree
in psychology or psychiatry, as well as additional training
in psychotherapy. They specialize in providing psychotherapeutic support and therapy for psychological problems.

Field of practice: Psychotherapists specialize
on the provision of psychotherapeutic support and help in the treatment of mental problems. Usually specialized
in clinical practice and provides psychotherapeutic support individually or in a group setting. They work
with clients on solving mental problems, psychosomatic symptoms, recovery of mental health, etc.

Methods of work: Various psychotherapeutic approaches are used, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis, Gestalt therapy, psychodrama, transactional analysis, positive psychotherapy, suggestive methods, family therapy, etc.

Psychiatrist

Education: Medical education with further specialized training in psychiatry.

Field of practice: Psychiatrists take a medical approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental illness.

Methods of work: If they have a positive psychotherapeutic education, they can use a combination of psychotherapeutic methods and drug treatment to manage mental conditions.

Therefore, psychologists are usually engaged in the research and development of psychological theories, psychotherapists specialize in providing psychotherapeutic support, and psychiatrists take a medical approach to the treatment of mental illness.

Although psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists have different roles and functions, they often work together to provide comprehensive psychological and psychiatric support to clients.
